Rejsekort
What is Rejsekort?
Rejsekort (literally travel card) is an electronic payment system used throughout Denmark’s public transportation network. It makes traveling easier by allowing check-in and check-out on all major transit systems without needing to buy separate tickets for each journey.
It’s especially useful for commuters and frequent travelers—and available to both residents and visitors.
How It Works
- Check in at the start of your journey using the blue card readers at stations, platforms, or inside buses.
- Check out at your destination to ensure accurate fare calculation.
- Fares are automatically deducted from your card balance and are based on distance traveled, not zones.
💡 If you forget to check out, you may be charged the maximum fare, so always scan your card at both ends of your trip.
Types of Rejsekort
Type | Description |
Anonymous Card | No CPR number required. Can be bought at 7-Eleven. Usable by anyone. |
Personal Card | Linked to one user, includes discounts. Requires CPR number. |
Superpersonal Card | Includes a photo. Only the cardholder (and children under 12) can use it. |
Where to Buy a Rejsekort
If you’re new in Denmark and don’t have a CPR number yet, you can buy an anonymous Rejsekort at:
- 7-Eleven stores at train stations
- Rejsekort ticket machines
- DSB Salg & Service counters
This allows you to use public transport immediately after arrival.
Once you get your CPR number, you can switch to a personal or superpersonal card to benefit from additional discounts and top-up options online.
Pricing and Discounts
The Rejsekort system offers automatic discounts for frequent travel:
- The more you travel, the lower your per-trip cost becomes
- Discount levels are calculated monthly and apply across all of Denmark
- Special rates are available for students, seniors, and children with a personal card
Example
You’ve just moved to Denmark and don’t yet have your CPR number. You buy an anonymous Rejsekort at 7-Eleven and use it to commute around Copenhagen on buses and the metro. After getting your CPR number, you upgrade to a personal card and start receiving monthly travel discounts.
Quick Tips for Expats
- Buy an anonymous Rejsekort at 7-Eleven if you don’t have a CPR number yet—you can start using it right away.
- Always check in and out—forgetting can result in a fine or overcharge.
- Use the Rejsekort website or app to monitor your trips, top up your balance, and see your fare history.
Once you have your CPR number, consider switching to a personal Rejsekort for lower fares and easier account management.
