NemKonto
What is NemKonto?
NemKonto is not a separate type of bank account; rather, it is an existing bank account (either Danish or foreign) that is designated for public payments. This system allows the Danish government to deposit funds directly into the account without needing to know the specific bank details of the individual or business.
How does it work?
Payments from public institutions are automatically directed to the designated NemKonto, which is linked to the individual’s Danish personal registration number (CPR-number) or the company’s identification number (CVR-number). This linkage enhances security and simplifies the payment process, as individuals do not need to inform multiple authorities about changes to their bank account details.
Common types of payments
Type of Payment |
---|
Tax refunds |
Social benefits (e.g., child benefits, unemployment benefits) |
Student grants and loans |
Public sector salaries and pensions |
Holiday pay |
Example
For instance, if you are an expatriate living in Denmark and you are eligible for child benefits, the payments will be automatically deposited into your designated NemKonto. This means you don’t have to worry about providing your bank details to different authorities each time you receive a payment.
