EU opholdstilladelse

What is EU opholdstilladelse?

EU opholdstilladelse is a residence certificate required for EU/EEA citizens and their accompanying family members who plan to stay in Denmark for more than three months. The application process differs based on the applicant’s personal circumstances (e.g. employment, studies, or family reunification).

Registration must be completed through SIRI, the agency responsible for processing applications from EU nationals. Once registered, you are eligible to apply for a CPR number and access key public services in Denmark.

Purpose and Importance

EU opholdstilladelse serves several key purposes:

  • Legal residence: Confirms your legal right to reside in Denmark under EU free movement rules.
  • Access to services: Necessary for registering in the Folkeregister and obtaining a CPR number.
  • Proof of status: Confirms your rights to work, study, or join a family member in Denmark.

Application Process

  1. Submit the correct form (OD1 for EU citizens, OD2 for family members) to SIRI
  2. Receive your case ID from SIRI.
  3. Book an appointment at a SIRI office in Denmark.
  4. Bring required documentation to your appointment, including:
    • Passport and/or national ID card
    • Passport photo
    • Employment or study documentation
    • Proof of family relationship (for family members)

After Approval

Once your application is approved, you will receive a certificate confirming your EU residence rights. This certificate is necessary to register your address and obtain a CPR number.
